It will discuss the relationship of Crowding to Boarding and will cover both quality of care and patient safety outcomes. It will also discuss real world solutions and how hospitals can implement interventions to alleviate crowding and make their EDs safer in the process. Emergency Department Crowding has been identified as a major public health problem by the Institute of Medicine. Several validated measures of Emergency Department Crowding are currently approved by the National Quality Forum and may play a role in future government pay-for-performance programs.
